Where to Obtain Spartanburg Infusion Therapy for RA

January 23, 2013 · No Comments

If you’re someone that has rheumatoid disease and requires regular infusions to control your condition we have some good news for you. Palmetto Infusion Services is opening infusion centers all along the coastal region of North and South Carolina. With the addition of the Spartanburg infusion therapy clinic we’ll be reaching even more people requiring infusion services.

Spartanburg infusion therapyThere are many medications called disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) that are used to treat rheumatoid disease. DMARDs are known to slow the progression of rheumatoid disease. Some of these medications are used alone and others are used in combination with other DMARDs such as methotrexate.

In addition to administering DMARD’s we also provide infusion therapy of the newest group of RA drugs called biologic response modifiers or biologics. Many people that have not responded to the DMARD drugs are responding positively to the biologics. Biologics have been shown to help slow progression of rheumatoid disease when all other treatments have failed to do so. Aggressive rheumatoid disease treatment is positively demonstrating its use in preventing long-term disability.

Biologics are genetically engineered proteins derived from human genes. They are designed to inhibit specific components of the immune system that play pivotal roles in fueling inflammation, which is a central feature of RA. Biologics are used to treat moderate to severe rheumatoid disease that has not responded adequately to other treatments. They differ significantly from traditional drugs used to treat rheumatoid disease in that they target specific components of the immune system instead of broadly affecting many areas of the immune system. Biologics may be used alone but are commonly given along with other medications.

If you are looking for a Spartanburg infusion therapy clinic where you can receive your rheumatoid disease injections, no matter what the type, give us a call at 800-809-1265 or stop by to talk to us.

Infusion Services for Multiple Sclerosis

October 29, 2012 · No Comments

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a complex and chronic disease affecting as many as 350,000 people in the United States. Approximately 200 new cases are diagnosed every week. A few short decades ago, the outlook for patients with MS was poor and there were no treatments to help reduce disease progression. Many patients were told, “You have MS and there is nothing we can do for you. Go home and live your life.” Treatment for MS has evolved since then.

Beaufort SC infusion servicesToday there are self-injecting medications that help reduce disease activity and slow down the progression of disability. In recent years, research in the field of MS has expanded and we have learned that combining these self-injecting medications with intravenous (IV) medications can enhance efficacy, resulting in significant improvement. Combination IV therapies are ever increasing in the treatment of multiple sclerosis and with continuing research may represent a suitable therapy choice for many patients.

Infusion therapy involves the administration of intravenous medications directly into the bloodstream through a vein, usually in the arm. In the case of MS, these medications go from the bloodstream into the central nervous system where they help reduce inflammation and prevent further damage. This can result in fewer relapses, reduction in MRI lesions and less disability.

Infusion therapy drugs used in the treatment of multiple sclerosis include immunosuppresants, chemotherapy-immunosuppressants, immunomodulators, and monoclonal antibodies.

If you are seeking a local Beaufort SC infusion services provider, consider us at Palmetto Infusion. We offer Beaufort SC infusion services in our clinic here as well as in other clinics throughout the Carolinas.

Treating Gout with Infusion Services

March 12, 2012 · No Comments

North Augusta infusion servicesIf you are seeking a clinic offering infusion services for treatment of your gout you’ll be pleased to know that North Augusta infusion services are close to your home in South Carolina.

Gout is a common form of arthritis that is the result of excessive accumulation of uric acid (UA) in the body. This accumulation eventually leads to deposits of UA in multiple areas including the joints and kidneys. This is caused by the abnormal metabolism of purines, a common building block of many foods. In patients with gout, the conversion of purines to UA outpaces the body's ability to excrete it. Gout is manifested by acute attacks of extremely painful debilitating attacks of joint swelling and inflammation. Over time if gout is not treated the attacks become more frequent and can lead to crippling and disability.

North Augusta infusion services are qualified to dispense drugs used to treat gout. Among the drugs that are used are colchicine, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and steroids. Drugs that are used to lower serum UA are probenecid, allopurinol, and febuxostat (Uloric).

A more recent addition to the treatment arsenal is a drug called pegloticase (Krystexxa). Pegloticase was approved by the FDA for the treatment of chronic gout unresponsive to conventional therapy. Unlike other gout drugs, it is given intravenously and is available through our North Augusta infusion services.
