Remicade is a prescription injectable medication used to treat a variety of conditions including moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, active ankylosing spondylitis, moderately to severely active Crohn’s disease, moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis, pediatric Crohn’s disease, and chronic to severe plaque psoriasis. Remicade blocks the action of a specific protein in the body, known as TNF-alpha. Too much of this protein causes the immune system to attack normal, healthy, parts of the body. Because it affects your immune system, you may be more susceptible to infection while being treated with Remicade. Your doctor should discuss other rare but potentially serious side effects and potential drug interactions with you prior to treatment.
