Kystexxa is a prescription intravenous medication used for the treatment of chronic gout in adult patients who are unable to find relief from other treatments. Treatment is given once every two weeks through intravenous infusion. Kystexxa is a PEGylated uric acid specific enzyme. In clinical trials the most common side effects included gout flares, bruising, sore throat, constipation, chest pain, vomiting, and allergic reactions. Because of the risk of a severe allergic reaction, patients should be pre-medicated with antihistamines and corticosteroids and should be closely monitored for an appropriate period of time for anaphylaxis after administration of Krystexxa. Your doctor should discuss other rare but potentially serious side effects and potential drug interactions with you prior to treatment.
