Palmetto invests $60,000 per year in the SCFCA to provide free health care to South Carolina
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – Palmetto Infusion Services, LLC (“Palmetto”), one of South Carolina’s largest and fastest growing privately held companies, is honored to partner with the South Carolina Free Clinic Association (SCFCA). Palmetto will invest $60,000 per year, in efforts to raise over $3 million in grants that will be shared amongst the organization’s free clinics across the state.
“It has always been a huge goal of ours to improve the quality and access of healthcare to South Carolina’s medically underserved,” said David Goodall, CEO of Palmetto. “We searched high and low and this was the best place for us to leverage our dollars and ensure that it was distributed to qualifying people throughout the entire state of South Carolina.”
The SCFCA consists of 40 free clinics and 34 satellites throughout the state. In 2018, these clinics treated 40,491 unduplicated patients. The organization fulfilled 127,138 medical visits, 11,540 dental visits, and 5,421 behavioral/mental health visits over the course of the year. For every dollar spent, the SCFCA provided $9 worth of healthcare services in return.
Free clinics are independent, community-based non-profit organizations that rely on grants and donations from their communities for support. Palmetto’s investment will go towards enhancing access within specific gaps of care, as identified by the clinics – in addition to funding the support of the day-to-day operations at each clinic.
“We are extremely excited about our new partnership with Palmetto Infusion and look forward to working with them,” said Patsy Whitney, Chair of SCFCA. “This is the first time that we have partnered with a private company to this extent and we are anticipating a very high return on Palmetto’s investment.”
The South Carolina Free Clinic Association is the only statewide organization that supports and advocates for South Carolina’s free clinic network and for the populations it serves. Each clinic is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with its own governing board and eligibility requirements. The SCFCA provides technical assistance, educational and networking opportunities, as well as the ability to bring local free clinics together to create a voice more powerful than could be realized individually. The SCFCA also supports and encourages new clinic development in underserved communities who identify the need and express the desire to open a free clinic.
